As I was driving into work and received a text from a coworker that she wasn’t feeling well and wouldn’t be in today, I realized that I could not remember the last time that I was sick. I’ve had some minor stomachaches (usually from something that I ate) and I’ve even had some headaches (that seemed hormone-induced). But, outside of those minor aches and pains, I haven’t been sick.
I usually always got the cold at least once each year. Sneezing, coughing, sore throat, and congestion. Sometimes led up to brochitis each winter. I have been lucky (*knock on wood*) to have never had the flu before. But, colds were always a thing.
Thanks to my healthy diet and consistent level of activity, I feel that I have built up my immune system against sickness. My boyfriend has gotten the flu and the common cold (even walking pneumonia last January) and I’ve always managed to stay healthy despite his own health.
I realized that this was a HUGE Non-Scale Victory for me.
In addition to some of my other health accomplishments, such as reversing my chronic kidney disease and possibly Graves Disease, I have also reduced my triglyceride levels and am currently rocking some healthy blood panel results at my last physical. Also, I can remember feeling like I used to have IBS (or irritable bowel syndrome) when I was in college. I always had to run to the bathroom and I can even remember several occasions when I thought I wasn’t going to make it. It was awful. I now realize that I didn’t have IBS. I simply had a shitty diet.
I am grateful to have changed my ways on my own and to be where I am today – – healthier and happier than ever!
